How many Driving licence checks should you do?
We recommend that drivers licences should be checked twice annually for all employees who drive on company business and not just those who have been allocated a permanent company cars. We recommend that you increase the number of checks where drivers are at a greater risk of losing their licence. Licences should also be checked for:
- New Starters / Pre employment
- Occasional car drivers (hire car and pool car drivers)
- Any one using their own vehicle on company business
If I take photocopies of my drivers licences, am I covered?
Taking licences at face value is no longer good enough. Can you ensure that the document presented is the latest version and not a duplicate obtained in the past. Checks must be rigorous, drivers may produce forgeries, photocopies or obtain a duplicate licence in advance of a court appearance or if their job is in jeopardy. The current records are held by DVLA and these give the latest position on that driving licence.
How can I tell what category of vehicle an employee is covered to drive?
There have been many changes to licences over the pass couple of years and understanding the information is a complex process, due to changes in the law and traffic regulations

What happens?
The approach is designed to remove the administrative burden and cost associated with checking each licence - helping to make life as simple as possible for you.
Step 1:
You send us all the names of your employees who drive on company business. This can be achieved by using a simple excel spreadsheet.
Step 2:
We will then contact each driver directly and get each of your drivers to sign a mandate which gives us the permission to approach the DVLA on your behalf.
You will receive a bespoke report advising you about the status of each driver through a secure web site.
